Edith Nesbit - The House of Arden
The famous Arden family treasure has been missing for generations, and
the last members of the Arden line, Edred, Elfrida, and their Aunt
Edith, have nothing to their names but the crumbling castle they live
in. Just before his tenth birthday, Edred inherits the title of Lord
Arden; he also learns that the missing fortune will be his if—and only
if—he can find it before the turns ten. With no time to lose, Edred and
Elfrida secure the help of a magical talking creature, the temperamental
Mouldiwarp, who leads them on a treasure hunt through the ages.
Together, brother and sister visit some of the most thrilling periods of
history and test their wits against real witches, highwaymen, and
renegades. They find plenty of adventure, but will they find the
treasure before Edred’s birthday?
Probably one of the best children's books ever written!

kulturhistoria och omgivning.

Edith Nesbit - The Wonderful Garden
Do you believe in magic? Caroline, Charles and Charlotte do, and nothing
that happens during their summer holiday at their great uncle's house
does anything to diminish that belief. There the Three C.'s find a
wonderful garden and some very old books, resulting in escapades which
do not necessarily please the grown-ups.
Edith Nesbit, as usual, transports us back to the hazy summer days of a
well-to-do Edwardian childhood, liberally spiced with magic, humour and
lessons learned.
As Gore Vidal once wrote: "...though a reading of E. Nesbit is hardly
going to change the pattern of a nation, there is some evidence that the
child who reads her will never be quite the same again, and that is
probably a good thing."
Published more than 100 years ago, this is one of Nesbit's least-known
children's books, out of print for many years but now it is finally
back.

Howard Pyle - The Story of King Arthur and his Knights
In these wonderfully illustrated tales,
renowned storyteller Howard Pyle carries us back to the enchanting world
of King Arthur and his Round Table. The book chronicles the adventures
of Arthur as he draws the sword Excalibur from the anvil, proving his
right to the throne, and as he courts and wins the heart of Guinevere.
Later he suffers the treachery of the wicked Morgana le Fay and
witnesses the tragic fate of the Enchanter Merlin. In Pyle’s classic
retelling, the legends come alive in unsurpassed vividness. More
powerful than any of Merlin’s spells, The Story of King Arthur and His
Knights has enthralled and delighted generations of readers fascinated
by chivalry, magic, and the unforgettable drama of medieval times.
A wonderfully fantastical and compelling version of the Arthur legend.
Howard Pyle's stories of King Arthur and his knights are themselves
legendary. Colorful tales of chivalry are combined with his own detailed
illustrations to create an elegant and beautiful book.
